How it works
The number of rounds is not fixed. A player keeps playing until they reach the win threshold (advancing) or the loss threshold (eliminated). Every round is paired inside pools of identical records: 0-0, then 1-0 and 0-1, then 2-0, 1-1, 0-2 and so on. Inside a pool the Buchholz coefficient decides the matchup — highest plays lowest, rematches are avoided. With 16 players and a threshold of 3 the stage fits into 33 matches across 5 rounds, and exactly half the field advances.

How many matches
Match and round count by participant number — plan your courts and schedule.
Every non-terminal pool plays half its size in matches. A pool with w wins and l losses holds N × C(w+l, w) / 2^(w+l) players, so the total depends only on the field size and the threshold: 16 players at threshold 3 gives 33 matches.
