Score entry: recording a match result in seconds

Entering scores is what an organiser does most, usually courtside and on a phone. So the score dialog opens with one tap, knows the rules of the sport and will not save an impossible score.

Where to enter

Tap a match in the bracket or a cell in the cross table. On a computer the dialog opens next to the cell, on a phone at the bottom of the screen. It shows both participants, match date and time, a comment field and the score field.

Hints and score checks

The hint in the score field depends on the sport and match format. For tennis it is “6:4, 4:6”, for best-of-three volleyball “2:1”, for basketball a score like “102:87”. If a score is impossible under the rules — say “3:1” in a best-of-three match — HoneyCup explains what is wrong instead of just refusing.

  • any character, a space or the right arrow separates the numbers;
  • sets and games are listed with commas or spaces;
  • three-digit scores are accepted too — for basketball, for example.

Editing and clearing

To correct a result, tap the match again: the dialog opens with the score filled in. To remove a result, clear the field or press the eraser. In a knockout bracket, editing a result updates later rounds: if the winner changes, a different participant moves on.

Walkovers

If a participant does not show up, press the flag next to their name — no score is needed. The winner gets the points for a win, the loser gets zero, and the difference follows the rules of the sport.

Getting started

  1. Create a tournament and add participants — the Participants tab shows a bracket preview right away.
  2. Press “Go to enter scores” or open the Bracket tab.
  3. Tap a match, enter the score and save.
  4. Table, bracket and standings update by themselves — for you and for everyone following the tournament.
