When It Fits
An amateur chess tournament for 10 players — a club, school, or company. A round robin for 10 is 45 games (unrealistic). Single elimination is 5 games, but half are out after the first. Swiss is the sweet spot: 4 rounds × 5 games = 20 matches, nobody is eliminated, and the ranking is fair.
Buchholz tie-break (sum of opponents' scores) decides places when points are equal — the FIDE standard for open tournaments. After each round pairings recalculate: 2 points play 2 points, with no rematches.
